My door’s swelled up and the deadbolt won’t turn at all. Is the lock broken?
Usually not. When a door takes on damp, it sits differently in the frame, and the bolt no longer lines up with the strike, which feels exactly like a failing lock. The fix is often an adjustment, not new hardware. Stop forcing the key, because that is how cylinders get damaI’ve just bought a house here. Should I rekey it?aIt’s the sensible first job really. You can’t possibly know how many copies of that old key are still out there after a sale and rekeying will change which key works without having to replace the lock bodies. You can typically get several doors on to one key in a single visit. Can you rekey a rental unit from one tenant to another?yYes, we do that quite frequently for Valley Park landlords.
